BH5 – Group 2, Block 12 – Heather Briggs
Happy Blockheads Wednesday! Yesterday was the first official day of spring, so it couldn’t be more perfect than to have Heather Briggs of My Sew Quilty Life as our featured designer this week. Heather’s debut collection with Moda, Flower Girl, is a soft and delicate floral collection that captures the spirit of a perfect spring day. Flower Girl is shipping to stores this month, so it won’t be long before you can sew up a bouquet of blocks with this gorgeous collection!

Something new we’re doing for this round of Blockheads is a weekly video. You can follow along with me as I sew the block of the week and share my tips and tricks and talk about different construction techniques. I’ll post the videos on YouTube and share them here on the blog. You can watch this week’s video below:
In this week’s video, I talk a little bit about how the pressing direction we choose when we’re piecing our blocks can sometimes make a difference in the overall look of our finished block.
The Blockheads patterns don’t always provide pressing instructions, giving you the flexibility to choose what works best for your fabrics. This week’s pattern does include pressing suggestions, and I’ll show you why we provided those particular pressing suggestions – and I’ll tell you why I pressed my seams in completely different directions!
Are you ready to see our blocks?
Lissa is using Nantucket Summer for her blocks.
Alison is making a fall version in 12” blocks and a patriotic version in 6” blocks.
I love how Alison’s red fabric looks like hearts!
And I am making a traditional/repro scrappy fall version and a sweet/cottage-y Americana version in 6” blocks.
Now…off you go to press, cut, and sew! And don’t forget to share your blocks with us in our Facebook group or on Instagram (#modablockheads5)!
