We are just using a few Layer Cake® pieces today for this sweet patchwork Cupcake Apron - perfectly sized for the 2 to 5 year old in your life. These make perfect basket stuffers for Easter!

Each apron measures about 13" tall x 16" wide and fits most children 2 to 5 years old.

{per apron}

3 Layer Cake® squares
20" square piece of backing fabric
3 pieces of Moda twill tape or plain ribbon for ties, approximately 10" long

Choose 3 Layer Cake® squares from your stash. One Layer Cake® square is the apron center and the other two make up the side and top panels and the pocket.

Cut two of the Layer Cake® squares in half to create (4) 5" x 10" rectangles.

Sew one 5" x 10" rectangle to each side of the center panel. Press.

Center one 5" x 10" rectangle, right sides together, over the center panel and sew together. Press. This is the apron front. Set aside for now.

Make the pocket by folding the remaining 5" x 10" rectangle in half lengthwise, right sides together. Press and sew a 1/4" seam along 3 edges, including the fold. Leave the top edge open. Turn right side out and press. Fold the open edge under 1/4" and press. Use a zigzag stitch to sew closed.

Place the pocket on the front of the apron, taking care with any elements of the fabric you do not want to cover up. Pin in place and top stitch around sides and bottom to attach.

Use the apron front as a template for cutting the backing fabric to size. Either cut carefully with a small rotary cutter and ruler or trace the edges with a pencil and cut out. With right sides together, mark a 1/2" seam allowance as shown on the apron. Use a corner rounding tool (about the size of a starch can lid) to mark a curve. This will be your sewing line. Add a curve along the bottom corners if desired (a coffee cup is about the right size). Sew the apron front and backing together, leaving a 4"opening at the bottom center.

Clip the corners and trim carefully in to the curved edges of the apron. Turn the apron right side out through the opening. Carefully press and top stitch to close the opening. Attach Moda twill tape for the neck and side ties. Simply fold under about 1/2" and sew to the apron with a zigzag stitch. Be sure to back stitch for extra hold.
