Hello Blockheads, and welcome to Week 24 of Blockheads 5, Group 2! We’re so excited that resident feedsack expert, textile historian, and fabric designer Linzee Kull McCray is our featured designer this week. She’s pulled a fantastic, tried-and-true traditional block for us this week called Eccentric Star. This fun and easy-to-piece block would also be a great filler block for your Blockheads project, depending on your setting. You could play around with color placement to get lots of different looks!

Linzee’s latest 30s-reproduction collection with Moda, 30’s Playtime, is in stores now. We’ve loved seeing her Blockheads blocks in this colorful, cheery collection!

Our Eccentric Star blocks are going come together in a jiffy – this block design features eight HSTs and a center square, and that’s it! We have covered HST construction several times in our series already, so instead of a full tutorial video this week, we have a quick little reel and block parade to share with you all!

At this point in the process, I’m starting to look a little more carefully at the blocks I’ve made so far, so I can make sure I’m balancing out my fabric selection. I put my blocks up on our sewing room wall and took a step back to see what colors and color values I might be missing, and used that to help guide my fabric choices for my blocks this week. Not only is Linzee’s Eccentric Star block quick to make, but it’s easy to change the color value emphasis simply by switching the placement of the dark and light HST halves.
