Stacy’s fabrics are full of charm and whimsy, so it’s no surprise that her block design, Shooting Stars, is just as charming. It’s a fun block with a unique look that will add movement and interest to your Blockheads project!

Something new we’re doing for this round of Blockheads is a weekly video. You can follow along with me as I sew the block of the week and share my tips and tricks and talk about different construction techniques. I’ll post the videos on YouTube and share them here on the blog. You can watch this week’s video below:
In this week’s video, I’m sharing a couple of notions that will help us make all those little folded corners with precision.
The first is Antler Quilt Design’s Mini Simple Folded Corner Ruler. This ruler is a staple in my sewing room – I use it all the time, and it really does help me achieve a perfect folded (or stitch-and-flip) corner.
I’m also using my Easy Press Pen and Easy Press Fabric Treatment this week to get crisp, super-flat seams. It’s so helpful when working with lots of seams and/or tiny pieces!
Are you ready to see our blocks?
Alison is making a fall version in 12” blocks and a patriotic version in 6” blocks.
I absolutely love Alison’s 6” variation. Instead of making the stripe units (or the star trails, as I call them!), she made four stars instead. If you want to make this variation (in either size), do not cut the A, B, and C units listed in the pattern cutting instructions, and cut twice as many D-I units.
And I am making a traditional/repro scrappy fall version and a sweet/cottage-y Americana version in 6” blocks.
Now…off you go to press, cut, and sew! And don’t forget to share your blocks with us in our Facebook group or on Instagram (#modablockheads5)!
