This easy quilt is the perfect project for your favorite solids! And bonus - you can personalize it.

We've used a Bella Solids Designer Select fat quarter bundle but this works with a fat eighth bundle from your favorite designer, as well. The ingredients do not include fabric for letters so you will need to do a bit of planning if you personalize your Prep School Quilt.

This quilt finishes at 72" x 90".

1 Bella Solid Designer Select fat quarter bundle (or equivalent to 40-9" x 22" strips)
½ yard EACH of 4 Bella Solids for block E (or substitute fabric for Spell It With Moda letters)
2½ yards background fabric
3/4 yard binding fabric
5½ yards backing fabric

Our preppy quilt mixes colors in each block. We've included a coloring sheet in the Printer Friendly file so you can design your block layout before you begin cutting. Blocks measure 18½" x 18½" unfinished.

From the 12 fat quarters in the bundle, cut:

• 20 - 4½" x 18½" strips
• 4 - 3½" x 18½" strips
• 20 - 2½" x 18½" strips
• 20 - 2" x 18½" strips

From EACH of the solid 1/2 yards*, cut:

• 2-5½" x 18½" strips
• 2-6½" squares

{*substitute these cuts for Spell It With Moda letters}

From the background fabric, cut 4 - 18½" x width of fabric strips. From the strips, cut:

• 24 - 18½" x 2½"
• 12 - 18½" x 4½"
• 20 - 18½" x 2"
• 8 - 18½" x 1½" strips
• 1 - 6½" x width of fabric strip, cut into 4-6½" squares (omit for Spell It With Moda letters)

There are five different blocks. Your quilt may look different from the sample quilt depending on how you cut and piece your blocks. Use ¼" seams.

Block A

Join 2-2½" x 18½" and 2-4½" x 18½" strips and 3-2½" x 18½" background strips as shown to make 1 block. Repeat to make 4 blocks.

Block B

Join 3-2½" x 18½" strips and 3-4½" x 18½" background strips as shown to make 1 block. Repeat to make 4 blocks.

Block C

Join 3 - 4½" x 18½" strips from one colorway, and 3 - 2½" x 18½" background strips as shown to make 1 block. Repeat to make 4 blocks.

Block D

Join 5 - 2" x 18½" and 1-3½" x 18½" strips and 5-2" x 18½" background strips as shown to make 1 block. Repeat to make 4 blocks.

Block E

{SKIP this block if you are making a row of letters instead) Join 2-5½" x 18½" strips and 2-6½" squares and 2-1½" x 18½" strips and 1-6½" background square as shown to make 1 block. Repeat to make 4 blocks.

Arrange and sew 5 rows of 4 blocks each as shown. Press the seams in opposite direction from row to row. Join the rows. Layer, quilt and bind.

Substitute the row of E blocks with a row of up to 8 Spell It With Moda letters, adding 3½" x 12½" background sashing strips to the top and bottom of each block so they measure 9½" x 18½" unfinished.
